When one thinks of Bihari cuisine, the first thing that comes to mind is litti chokha, a popular Bihari dish. Litti and chokha is an authentic combination that is famous throughout India and can be found simply at street food shops and restaurants. Litti has an exciting traditional filling of sattu and spices such as ajwain and kalonji. It is served with chokha (mashed potato and brinjal) and can be eaten as a snack or as a full meal. Origins, the chokha is made by grilling eggplant, tomato, and onion on coal. But guess what? We came across a video recently shared by food blogger @foodie_incarnate. The video depicts a street vendor in Raipur preparing chokha by deep frying brinjals.
This video will soon intrigued foodies all over and garnered over 3 million views and over 100k likes in a short span of time. Many foodies commented on this post. Some of the comments were “It might be tasty, but it’s not authentic.”, while another user said, “being a Bihari, this style of preparing chokha is making me uncomfortable.”
Besides the unusual style of cooking chokha, the littis are also strangely shaped. People commented on that too. “Litti ke naam pe roti khila rahe hain (preparing chapati in the name of litti)”. However, this is not the first time we have come across such weird combinations and fusions. Every now and then, there’s something new on our social media feeds.
